Pooke se Bos beneficiaries receive keys to their homes

Today, 8 March 2023,
15 more beneficiaries moved into their new Breaking New Ground (BNG) homes at
the City’s R45 million Pooke se Bos infill housing project in Gatesville. The
project will provide 135 opportunities to qualifying beneficiaries once it is
completed.
The City's Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi, and senior officials in the Human Settlements Directorate handed over keys to beneficiaries and celebrated with them as they moved into their new homes.
'The Pooke se Bos infill housing project is one of the City's special projects as it provides opportunities for residents of the existing Pooke se Bos informal settlement in the area. Over the coming weeks, the City will be handing over more opportunities to the qualifying families and we look forward to doing so. We are committed to providing affordable housing opportunities to residents across the metro and we are ensuring that the most vulnerable residents are assisted.
'The project will be completed in June this year if all goes as planned and we thank the community for their ongoing support. Over recent weeks, more than 30 beneficiaries moved into their homes. Thus far, the City handed over 40 opportunities at the project.
'Our project teams and contractors have been working extremely hard in making this possible and we thank them for their dedication.
'The City's six-point plan is in action to help reduce the incidents of violence, criminality, and extortion at our housing projects which are threatening our affordable housing projects. We urge the community to be our eyes and ears and to assist us by reporting any illegal activity at City housing projects in their areas.'The City is offering rewards of R5 000 for information leading to arrests of anyone targeting City housing projects with extortion and violence across the metro,' said Councillor Booi.
